>If thats OK, then do : Start > Control Pannel > Sounds and Audio Devices > >Volume Tab > make sure the sliders are up to max > Advanced Tab > make >sure >you've got some speakers selected. If not, select some from the scroll list, >hit Apply, then OK then Apply again, if necessary, then OK again. I have the same problem with sound. The driver for the direct sound is missing. I re-installed the driver but to no avail. I looked at the solution as you mentioned but "no can do" as the device volume is still shaded and there is a comment that there is no audio and no playback device in the volume and audio tab resp.
