Greetings,
After running Disk Defragmenter I got a message saying "Some files on this volume could not be defragmented". However, when I click the View Report button, it doesn't show any files. Why would it say that some files couldn't be defragmented, but not show those files? Here is the log file: Volume Teletraan I (C ![]() Volume size = 93.15 GB Cluster size = 4 KB Used space = 38.13 GB Free space = 55.02 GB Percent free space = 59 % Volume fragmentation Total fragmentation = 2 % File fragmentation = 4 % Free space fragmentation = 0 % File fragmentation Total files = 120,919 Average file size = 493 KB Total fragmented files = 3 Total excess fragments = 2,326 Average fragments per file = 1.01 Pagefile fragmentation Pagefile size = 1.49 GB Total fragments = 2 Folder fragmentation Total folders = 15,430 Fragmented folders = 1 Excess folder fragments = 0 Master File Table (MFT) fragmentation Total MFT size = 159 MB MFT record count = 137,100 Percent MFT in use = 84 % Total MFT fragments = 3 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fragments File Size Files that cannot be defragmented None Thanks, Shane Goodman Windows XP Home SP3 |

Your report indicates three fragmented files but I can only see two identified. The pagefile and the MFT table. Do you use hibernation? -- Hope this helps. Gerry,
Hibernation is enabled, but I typically use Stand By instead of Hibernation. What is the Pagefile and Master File Table? Thanks, Shane. Greetings,
The problem is from files index (OS search function - indexing service - or another software which use it). I got to same problem which almost droved me crazy (I tested Kaspersky AV and mess up my entire system, MFT, usnjrln, metadata, etc). The file/data mentioned above its supposed to be updated continuously (and defrag - by rebuilding it, if you didn't stop the indexing service of course). You can very well to delete usnjrln file/data using the fsutil command (e.g. "fsutil usn deletejournal /D C:", where C: is the partion C supposed with that problem and can be replaced with the right letter for the partition with this defrag error - see OS help). If you didn't stopped the indexing service then the usnjrln data will be recreated/replaced with a new/fresh one, but if you did stopped the indexing service then you don't need that file/data anymore.
