I have just setup two new XP Profesisonal SP3 computers on a Windows 2000
Server workgroup network. Neither of the XP Pro SP3 computers can be 'seen' in "View Workgroup Computers" or by any other computers in the workgroup. Some are Win 2000 Pro and some are Win XP Pro SP2. Those computers can be 'seen' by each other. I have turned off Windows Firewall (no other security software in place), unchecked "Use simple file sharing", shared the drive with 'Everyone'. I have run the "Setup Network Wizard" to make sure of the Computer and Workgroup names. I have tried everything I know to get those new PC's to become viewable on the network. I cannot even use the shared printer on one of the new PC's becuase I cannot 'See' it. When I ping the IP address or the Name of the computer from any other PC or the server, I get the proper response/reply. Any assisttance with this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Steven M Hughins |

Hi
Check the Firewalls make sure that the Sharing is allowed and it is in the exception list. In general. As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is allowed to be shared. Jack,
Thanks for replying to my issue. I have followed the steps. By the way, there are no Vista machines on the etwork. I am just stumped as to why the new XP Pro SP3 machines do no show up on the other computers, as well as not showing up on their own as a workgroup computer or in "Network Neighborhood". Do you or anyone else have any other ideas or suggestions to take. Thanks very much for looking into this matter. Several block the NetBIOS name resolution protocol, which is why you can see the PCs by IP addresses instead by name. |
