Default LAN ???

I've successfully set-up a LAN using 2 Desktops with Windows XP, & 2 Laptops
with XP wirelessly through a router. All the PCs can see the folders I've
allowed as Shared on this PC. I've added a 5th PC by wire to the same
router but it does not see any of the folders on this PC. It does see a
folder on 1 of laptops (only laptop with a shared folder, I can map these
okay).
Any help be appreciated.

Thanks, Bill

If you are running XP HE (Home Edition) you may be hitting the limit
on the number of concurrent inbound connections; 5 for XP HE.

Check to see if the new PC:

1) On same "workgroup"

2) Firewall set up to allow File/Printer sharing thru it

3) Anti-virus software to permit NetBIOS name resolution. If not set,
PCs can only see / be seen by IP address.

Okay,
1) Same Workgroup
2) Checked "Allow...." under the Exceptions Tab in Firewall settings,
Restarted, no help,
3) Use AVG 8.x on all PCs, not aware of what your saying here. Other 3 PCs
see Folders on this PC okay, have never made any setting changes as you
note.

Did you "share" a folder on this PC?

Also, I know that some anti-virus systems (especially Norton) block
access on th network by computer names. The way to check is to try to
see if you can "browse" this PC by IP address. The wat to checo if to
find the IP address on this "questionable" PC and then on another PC,
in Internet Explorer try to access it by IP address (ex: \
\192.168.1.1) If you can see it, then your anti-virus system is
blocking the browsing by PC name (ex: \\PC1)

Okay, Say PC1 is PC I'm on now (Main PC that modem & router connected).
PC2 -PC4 can see the Shared Folders on PC1. New PC, call it PC5 (wired),
can see shared Folder on a wireless laptop called PC3. No Folders on PC5
are Shared. Only Shared Folders are on PC1 & PC3.
As mentioned in previous Post, I use AVG 8.x Anti-virus Software on all PCs,
have never made setting change you noted previously.

Next step would be to do a test with no firewall enabled.
