I just used wipeclean to clear my hard drive (children messed it up beyond
repair), but now my ethernet does not come up under network adaptors in device manager. I have tried using the reinstallation disk that came with my computer and it appears to download, but it still fails to show up under network adaptors. What do I need to purchase to be able to access the internet? It was using a broadcom netxtreme gigabit ethernet. |

Does it at least show up as "unknown?" |

no, it doesn't list any network adaptors

If a device does not have correct driver installed, it shows up under the "Unknown" device list. If the Ethernet port is built in on the motherboard, you need to install the drivers from the CD that was delivered with it. It usually contains the drivers that are required to connect the ports on the motherboard into Windows. |

Also, is this a standard desktop / tower PC or a laptop? |
