Ritter197,
These are instructions for Outlook 2K3, but they should be similar for you. Open Outlook> TOOLS> Email accts> Change and View Accts> Select your Comcast acct> Change button> More Settings button: 1. Outgoing Server tab: a. Make sure you select "My Outgoing Mail Server requires authenitication" I personally use the "Logon On Using" boxes, because I use a Spam filtering Program. b. And manually put your Comcast UserID and password there. You might need to use your primary UserID & password that was given to you by Comcast. 2. On the Advance tab: a. Leave Incoming Mail Server Port as 110. And leave The box for using SSL connection unchecked. b. For the Outgoing server, change Port: 25, to Port: 587 (You can try using Port: 465, if you have problems with 587.) You will need to check the box for encrypted (SSL) connection for access to the Outgoing Mail server. You will need to do this also, if you use the alternative Port: 465, for the Outgoing Server. This is the way that you have it set up in OE6 or WLM in Vista. -- Rich/rerat (RRR News) <message rule> <<Previous Text Snipped to Save Bandwidth When Appropriate>> "Brian Matthews" <noonecares@ddd.com> wrote in message news:l30rd4tetqtm4skki9tl7o0omo36dc3mvs@4ax.com... [top posting corrected to maintain message flow] You can receive email via Outlook, but you can't send? Go to Tools - Email Accounts - View or Change Existing Accounts, press Next, then select the account you're having trouble with and press Change. In the dialog that opens: - In the User Information section, make sure Email Address contains your entire email address (name@comcast.net). - In the Logon Information section, make sure User Name contains ONLY the first part of your email address. If it says name@comcast.net then remove @comcast.net. - Make sure the option to "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is UNchecked. - Make sure your outgoing server is smtp.comcast.net. I don't know how many times I've gone to a customer's premises and found that they've entered something like stmp.comcast.net (notice the flipped letters). - Press Test Account Settings. If you don't get all green checkmarks, what do you get? Switch to the Errors tab and copy any errors that appear there after testing your connection. - If necessary, press More Settings, then select the Outgoing Server tab. Enable the first option called "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and just below that select the option called "Use same settings as my incoming mail server". - Select the Advanced tab and compare to my settings: Outgoing Server - 465 Check the box called "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL). - Press OK to close the Advanced dialog, then press Test Account Settings again. Does it work, or do you still get an error? Copy and paste the error here. -- Bill |

Bill, I have printed it out and followed each step (probably for the 20th
time). I cannot send or receive. I tried your settings too with Outgoing 465 and SSL checked. It does not work. The error message cannot be copied with right mouse click but it says: "Send test e-mail message: The server was found, but there was no response from the server. Please verify that the port and SSL information is correct." I'm not sure what else to say, short of either having someone you trust come over and setting it up or perhaps allowing someone you trust to remotely access your system to either set it up for you or at least to watch you do it. Two sets of eyes can be much better than one. Have you tried a simple Telnet connection to rule out things like firewalls or host file entries? For that matter, have you tried another email client, like Outlook Express? *shudder* Only for testing purposes, of course. One last random question, when you set up this account, did you select the type as POP3? I assume you're doing something fundamentally wrong, but I can't guess what it is. -- Bill |

Bill, thanks for responding.
Yes, I have set it also up as Windows Live Mail and Outlook Express at this time. They both work. I also have the same 2003 Outlook set up on my laptop, sitting directly next to me and have compared every step of the entries. They all are correct. Finally, I have disengaged the Trendmicro AV system and installed Avira AV (same as on laptop) all to no avail. Finally, I have worked with computers for years and am not computer illiterate, but of course can always learn from others experiences. I appreciate any other comment to get this hopefully solved. (Comcast on the phone also said they can see nothing wrong as far as setup is concerned) "Bill" <none@none.invalid> wrote in message news:l04be4p1pqttr29a0laaffk3b6ud5nkkn6@4ax.com... > On Thu, 2 Oct 2008 17:52:26 -0400, "Ritter 197" > <Ritter197@comcast.net> wrote: > >>Bill, I have printed it out and followed each step (probably for the 20th >>time).
