Sounds like some adware/spyware like possibly MyWebSearch has not
uninstalled properly. Download CCleaner http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ and run the registry cleaner (make sure you select to save backup changes to the registry [make a folder for it] so you can undo the changes if needed.
