Add/Remove programs shows the program but just gives me how much use it
has...There are NO remove options. So I tried to reinstall it using the original cd and it says its already installed and that if I want it removed, to go to Add/Remove in control panel to perform that function. I'm really frustrated because its a huge program taking up a lot of Hard Drive Space and the worst is MS doesn't support the 2006 version anymore and there are no updates. Could someone please tell me how to get this forsaken program off my computer? Should I manually start deleting MS Student 2006 folders? TIA |

What happens when you double click on the "Student 2006" line in the ADD/REMOVE window?

TIA Crossposting is fine when done in moderation but I fail to see any moderation in your case. Let's be a bit more moderate, especially with such a trivial problem! Why, for example, would you post a program removal question in a hardware group? Remember - program=software! Use the scroll bar when viewing the list of programs to be uninstall. This will probably make the "Remove" button appear. |

On the Microsoft Student 2006 DVD line all I get is a line that specifies
"used" - Last Used On and "rarely." There are NOP remove options. I have other programs that have remove options in my add/remove program but Student doesn't have it..NOR does the Microsoft Student Graphing Calculator have it. Please suggest something! Sorry for the inconvenience but the scrollbar is working fine..as I scroll
down the list of programs and they are highlighting automatically..if this is what you mean. As for your moderation comment, I fail to see the purpose of your statement since I'm desperate to have this program removed and I'm reaching out to ANYONE who is remotely connected with MS to offer some advice. I "think" your advice has failed to resolve my "trivial" problem however... Think your Registry needs "cleaning" or "repairing"? Read

No problem. 1. Set a System Restore point for today before you go to work. 2. Since your main problem is drive space you might as well just delete all folders in c:\Program Files that are unique to MS Student apps. 3. Many file calls to this will remain in Registry. To get rid of these first make a pencil list of relevant folders (#2) or EXE files in MS Student 3a. Run REGEDIT.EXE 3b. Do / File / Export to save a copy of the old Registry to a safe place. (You now have ample filespace.) 3c. Do / Edit / Find for values (e.g. filepaths) for any likely parts of MS Student (listed in #3). 3d. Delete every key you find that is solely for MS Student. As you get used to the way the Registry is organized you will note these are grouped under either / Microsoft or /Software in each of the major key groups. To save time you can select in the left panel whole subdirectories of keys and delete them at one go. Reboot when finished and make a pencil list of any file calls to missing MS Student files, in case you need to purge these out of the Registry again. In case of unplanned accidents you have both a System Restore point and a saved unedited Registry, so you can turn the clock back if needed. None of this prevents your reinstalling MS Student from its CD when you can afford the space. -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |
