I switch an external hard drive between two PCs. Upon doing this I discovered
that this drive named (H) under PC1 was recognized as (I) when it came back to PC1. The problem is I have an application that recognizes the location of stored maps as (H: ..... maps) and I cannot access them anymore. The application does does not allow redirection and I have so many maps I can't do it one by one. Is there a way to force this drive to be recognized as (H) when there is none that have taken that letter? Thanks, Pierre |

Right click on 'My Computer' and select 'Manage'. Now select Drive Management from the left side menu. You might find it easier to make the box bigger at this point. Somewhere on the right you external drive will appear and the partition will be shown as I:. Right click and select Change Drive letter. It should be self explanatory from there. |

I should have added that the drive letter you select should become sticky unless something else occupies H: when you plug it in or (likely) you plug it into a different USB port. |

Hello,
problem appears again when I permute the HD between two machines, BUT now the drive letter does not apeear anymore when I use the process you proposed, only the technical description of the drive (Seagate, etc.) What should I do next? Thanks, Pierre "M.I.5¾" wrote: > > "M.I.5¾" <no.one@no.where.NO_SPAM.co.uk> wrote in message > news:47f60cf7$1_1@glkas0286.greenlnk.net... > > > > "PierreL" <PierreL@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > > news:7CC36F29-453D-4783-B1FD-5D74404846B4@microsoft.com... > >>I switch an external hard drive between two PCs.
