Default Clicking "view workgroup computers" does nothing.

i am trying to network two xp computers in a workgroup. one computer can see
itself in the workgroup but the other computer does nothing when i click view
"workgroup computers". i have check the mode, given the computer a static ip
address, turn off all firewalls and still nothing.

nothing happens when i click "view workgroup computers". why doesn't it do
anything?

Make sure you have enabled file sharing and NetBIOS. To confirm them, in
each computer use net share command and net view command. If you receive
system error, post back with the results.

Here is the results. When i look at the network setup sharing is enabled as
well as netbios.

C:\Documents and Settings\hay>net share
The Server service is not started.

Is it OK to start it? (Y/N) [Y]: y
System error 1058 has occurred.

The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it
has n
o enabled devices associated with it.


C:\Documents and Settings\hay>net view
The service has not been started.
