You can move the .eml files to a folder on a USB memory stick. You can also
just do a burn on a CD of all the mail folders.
Afterwards when the operating system is in order you can move or copy the
..eml files to a folder in your Documents. Your e-mail software will open
them for rereading where ever they are stored.
I regularly move e-mail files that I want to keep intact to a storage
folder. In your case at the moment an external drive or other facility is
the choice. Any other files (images or documents) should get the same
treatment. Make a list of the software you will have to reinstall.
