disk cleanup shows debug dump files 260,688 K for the first time ever. What
is this and is it safe to delete these files?

Without knowing what "debug dump files" are I can't say. Experienced any
crashes lately? Windows stores technical information when a crash occurs
in files that are colloquially known as 'dump files'.

I'm not sure. We've had slow performance and few "Sorry but IE must shut
down" messages. I was trying to clean up some disk space to improve
performance when I found the "debug dump files". Can you direct me further
on how to check a log or something to give you further info? Are you saying
the windows technical inofrmation logs a crash or it's operational
information that should not be erased? Thanks for the help!

Freeing up disk space doesn't affect your computer's performance. That's
not why you run the Disk Cleanup Wizard. You use Disk Cleanup to free up
space so you can store more on your disk.

You increase your computer's performance by adding RAM or by closing
memory-intensive applications.

If you have a question about 'Internet Explorer must close' messages,
ask in the Internet Explorer newsgroup. Usually that's caused by an
incompatible browser add-on or malware.

The minidump files are automatically generated when Windows crashes.
They are used by technical support representatives to help understand
why your computer crashed. If you're not planning on submitting them to
a support rep, erase them.
