Hi All,
windows xp sp2 gdr. machine is a domain member. In taskmanager, I have view->update speed->high. When I look at "i/o other bytes" column in task manager, (which is not enabled by default,) I see that the byte count steadily increases at a constant rate (just under 4k) each refresh of taskmanager. This happens when the machine is idle. It did not used to increase constantly while idle. It will increase if I go for files, folders, run programs, and this is nornal, but just sitting idle it should not increase at a constant rate. a fresh load will not increase while idle. In safe mode, it does not increase at a constant rate while idle. In safe mode with networking , it does not increaseat a constant rate while idle. before you go the spwyare virus route, I have already tested and cleaned the machine, its defragged, and the page file is contiguous 2gig. Explorer.exe has been virus tested, and has been authenticated using md5 and sha1. I have already booted with just enough services to find and run the network and the problem persists. when I disconnect the network connection the i/o other bytes stop increasing while idle. This is not normal and I could use direction as to what is the problem and how to fix it. Thank you James Long Network Administrator. |
