Philips iQoun PC with an MSI MS-7071 m/b.
At switch on there's a quick display of the boot screen then the monitor switches back to standby, can't even get to BIOS Setup. There are no POST beeps at all. All fans are running and no dust inside it. The PC appears to be still booting because the HDD activity LED is flashing but here's the odd thing, it's still flashing even with the HDD totally disconnected, both power and data. Also have DVD drive disconnected. Checked CMOS battery with multimeter, it's above 3V. Also tried clearing CMOS with onboard jumper. Tried reseating RAM. Graphics and audio are onboard on this. Almost certainly hardware fault but where to start, CPU, RAM, PSU or m/b itself? Any advice appreciated. -- Kenny Cargill |

Thanks for the reply, don't have spare PSU to hand but may be able to borrow
one to test. The one in it is Jeantec 400W and looks new. -- Kenny Cargill "philo" <philo@privacy.net> wrote in message news:%23Zu8fNAmIHA.4504@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > > "Kenny" <me@privacy.net> wrote in message > news:Oq8xzIAmIHA.1208@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... >> Philips iQoun PC with an MSI MS-7071 m/b. >> At switch on there's a quick display of the boot screen then the monitor >> switches back to standby, can't even get to BIOS Setup. >> There are no POST beeps at all. >> All fans are running and no dust inside it. >> The PC appears to be still booting because the HDD activity LED is > flashing >> but here's the odd thing, it's still flashing even with the HDD totally >> disconnected, both power and data. With another 400W PSU was able to get into the BIOS but would shut down
trying to load Windows. Watched the hardware monitor in BIOS and CPU temp kept creeping up until it reached the default set point of 85C then PC shut down. It's a fairly good quality heatsink and fan. Like I said I didn't think the PSU in it was the original, too new looking, the other one is older but seems can supply just that wee bit more. Have no direct contact with the owner till midweek but it looks like he had it with someone else who replaced the PSU and when that didn't work it came to me! -- Kenny Cargill "philo" <philo@privacy.net> wrote in message news:u$%235rZAmIHA.1912@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > > "Kenny" <me@privacy.net> wrote in message > news:OGQN5RAmIHA.4480@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... >> Thanks for the reply, don't have spare PSU to hand but may be able to > borrow >> one to test. Clean your cpu fan, that is too hot. If not dirty I would reapply heat
compond. This has nothing to do with the OS and as such does not belong HERE. Ask elsewhere - perhaps a friend that knows about computers or a shop? |

How many times do I (or someone else) have to remind you Paul, that .. #1 this is not your news group (thank heavens) and #2 most of us enjoy helpin' when we can and learnin' when we can't. But if you can't understand that, why not go away? I mean there's at least 6 or 8 of us that keep dropping real BIG hints. Ed (my real name) |

Thanks again for the replies, will double check the H/S & fan, they look
clean but will remove them and re-apply thermal compound. To Faradin why is this group called hardware? That's what my question is about. As for myself I am qualified to CompTia A+, Cisco CCNA as well as high level qualifications in electronics, what have you got? To the group 2 more questions. 1. Can a damaged CPU also cause m/b damage and vice versa? 2. Is it possible this was a bodged attempt at overclocking? -- Kenny Cargill "Ed Covney" <ed(dot)covney(at)gmail(dot)com> wrote in message news:OTyC9XFmIHA.1184@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > Paul Thoroughgood wrote: > >> This has nothing to do with the OS and as such does not belong HERE. >> Ask elsewhere - perhaps a friend that knows about computers or a shop? > > How many times do I (or someone else) have to remind > you Paul, that .. > #1 this is not your news group (thank heavens) and > #2 most of us enjoy helpin' when we can and learnin' > when we can't. > > But if you can't understand that, why not go away?
